The NFL Standard
Anytime I need a reality check on where we are as a nation, I just look at the NFL.
I don’t watch football but everyday while I’m working out at my local Y, ESPN is on. So everyday I am reminded that a multi-billion dollar organization exists solely to provide distraction and harm. This organization is a direct reflection of our society and it's existence breathes life into the following beliefs:
1. Black People Are Only Meant for Consumption
Over half of the NFL's players are Black and yet they want praise for scraps: NFL Reaches 'Major Milestone' With Record 9 Minority Head Coaches in Place for the 2024 Season. Mind you, they're counting the coach below in that number. This plantation style corporation keeps the one drop rule alive and well, but ironically weaponizes it when able to.
The NFL wouldn't even utter Black Lives Matter until it became inevitable and has still not given anything they owe to Colin Kaepernick. Also the lack of funding going in to preserving the livelihood of the players after their careers, is disgusting.
2. Performative Actions Are Enough
The formerly Washington Redskins have changed their name to the Washington Commanders. This wouldn't be performative if the NFL didn't still have the Kansas City Chiefs. Also, their Inspire Change initiative towards "social justice" took Black Lives Matter, diluted it to sell merch and threw pennies at it only to continue to do the extremely performative community service photo ops they did before.
3. Women Deserve Less Than Nothing
The NFL hates women. They show this through the way they don't pay women, use them as sex objects and promote domestic violence. They hate women and will continue to show it.

Bonus Points:
The movie the Blind Side doubles down on the White savior complex fueling the NFL and ultimately America. The NFL treats anyone associated with the LGBTQIA+ community like we have the plague. The NFL is a celebrated reflection of America. This is what America wants and allows to continue.
