I watched Heathers for the first time in 2018. Que Será, Será by Sly and the Family Stone played at the end of the film and really solidified my decision to kill myself.
I was in a really bad place when I first saw the movie. I had no idea how to deal with the large emotions that I had suppressed for so long. I was one angsty teenage movie about murder/suicide away from killing myself.
Suicide is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the United States, with one person taking their life every 11 minutes.
For a lot of people that's all it takes. One song, one interaction, one movie, one anything to "confirm" all the terrible things they have thought about and the belief that everyone in the world would be better off without them. I'm writing an article about this time in my life that I'll be sharing tomorrow and it made me think of how easy it was for me to choose the permanent solution.
I am forever grateful I'm still here. Everyday it gets easier and easier to choose life. Everyday it gets easier and easier to listen to Que Sera Sera.
