How Do You Pronounce Your Name?

Rahimeh Ramenzany (She/Her) was a guest on my podcast, Absolutely Not!, almost 2 years ago. She was an absolute delight and she is the reason I have my name pronunciation visible in a lot of places.

Rahimeh has shared in several spaces that the respecting of someone’s name and the way it’s pronounced is crucial to creating safer environments for all to feel like they belong. I’ll admit before this permission to simply ask others how to pronounce their name, I steered away from inviting guests with names I had never pronounced before. That practice kept me from meeting amazing people and from their insightful experiences being shared in my spaces. I have since included the question in my special guest form and included my name pronunciation wherever I can.

Rahimeh even created a great visual of simple places everyone can start to add their own name pronunciation. Remember, no name is “hard to pronounce”. You’ve just never pronounced it before.

Rahimeh’s great visual of where name pronunciation can go.
